The line most first-time founders under-budget is certification. Homologation and emissions work produces no resaleable asset and can absorb six figures before a customer ever signs, yet it is non-negotiable. A plan that buries it inside a vague "contingency" line tells a lender the founder has not built a regulated product before. Show it as its own milestone with its own cash and its own timeline.
Funding the Setup
Lenders treat tooling and inventory as financeable assets, so equipment finance and an SBA 504 facility usually cover the bulk of the hard costs.
