What's included

Six research modules.
Every report. Every time.

A startup market research service that goes beyond a pasted IBISWorld chart. Every module is built from primary and secondary sources, cross-checked, and presented in a format investors and lenders actually read.

01

TAM / SAM / SOM Model

Total addressable, serviceable addressable, and serviceable obtainable market, sized top-down from Grand View Research, Fortune Business Insights and government data, then validated bottom-up from your unit economics. Both numbers reconciled in a single defensible model that an analyst can stress-test in front of you on a call. Growth-rate sensitivity tables included so you can swap in your own assumptions without breaking the spreadsheet.

02

Competitor Matrix

The top 5 to 12 players in your category, scored across pricing, distribution, funding, product features, marketing channels, customer reviews and weaknesses. Not a logo grid, a working analysis you can use to position around competitor gaps. Each competitor profile includes a single-line "how to beat them" hypothesis grounded in the data, ready for your strategy session or board discussion.

03

Customer Personas

2 to 4 validated buyer personas with demographics, jobs-to-be-done, willingness-to-pay, channel preferences and objection patterns. Backed by survey data, expert interviews or both, not stock photos and guesses. Each persona ships as a standalone one-pager you can drop into product specs, ad briefs and sales enablement decks without reformatting.

04

Regulatory & Compliance Map

Licensing requirements, data-protection obligations, sector-specific bodies (FDA, FCA, FINRA, CQC, USDA and equivalents), tax treatment and the regulatory developments most likely to affect your roadmap in the next 24 months. Every requirement is tagged with the relevant rulebook citation so your legal team can verify it in minutes, not days.

05

Pricing & Margin Benchmarks

Competitor pricing bands, average order value, contract length, gross-margin norms and discount discipline across your category. Tells you where to anchor pricing, where you have room to undercut or premium-price, and which contract structures the category leaders use to defend their margins. Useful long after the report is delivered.

06

GTM Recommendations

Channel-by-channel go-to-market plan grounded in the research. Which channels the data says will work, in what order, with what CAC assumptions, against which customer persona. The research ends in a decision, not a dashboard. Comes with a 90-day execution checklist so the report drives action rather than gathering dust on a shared drive.

Process

From kickoff to
final deliverable

A four-step process that turns a fuzzy market question into a research report your lender, board or VC will treat as a primary source.

Step 1 · Day 0

Scope

30-minute strategy call. We agree the geography, the segment, the must-have outputs and the format you need it in. You leave the call with a written brief and a fixed quote.

Step 2 · Days 1-5

Data collection

Secondary sources first, Grand View Research, Fortune Business Insights, IBISWorld, Census, Eurostat, ONS, USDA, FRED and trade associations. Where the data has gaps, we run primary research: expert interviews, customer surveys, pricing audits.

Step 3 · Days 5-8

Analysis

We build the TAM/SAM/SOM model, score the competitor matrix, synthesise the personas and write the GTM recommendation. Every figure is tagged to its source. Every assumption is exposed so you can stress-test it later.

Step 4 · Days 8-10

Deliverable

Designed PDF report, editable slide deck and raw Excel data pack, delivered together. You review, we revise. The version you sign off on is the one your investors and lenders will see.

Why Avvale

Built by people who have
researched 300+ markets

Most market research firms sell you a syndicated report and call it a day. We have spent the last seven years building bespoke research for 300+ businesses across 30 countries, every single one tailored, sourced and signed off by a human analyst.

01

300+ businesses, 30 countries

Every Avvale business plan, pitch deck or financial model in the last seven years included a market research module. That gives us a proprietary database of sector benchmarks, pricing norms and competitor data across consumer goods, healthcare, fintech, food and beverage, real estate, professional services, manufacturing, energy, education, transport and more. New projects in those sectors start at the 70-yard line, we already know the players, the regulators and the unit-economics ranges.

02

Founder-led analysis

Your research is led by Muhammad Tayyab Shabbir, UCL-trained in Theoretical Physics, co-author of a Classical Mechanics textbook taught at UCL, and the founder of Avvale. Not a junior analyst running ChatGPT prompts. The same person who scopes your project signs off on the final report.

03

Investor diligence proven

Our clients have raised over $120M using research built into their fundraising materials. The data has been reviewed by Tier 1 VCs, family offices, SBA underwriters, banks and corporate strategic investors. When their analysts push back, the citations hold.

04

Raw data, no lock-in

You receive the Excel data pack with every figure, every source URL and every assumption. No subscription, no recurring fee, no license restriction. Re-use the data in pitch decks, board packs, investor updates or your next round of fundraising.

Challenger Fintech

$4.5M Seed Round Closed on Market Sizing That Withstood VC Pushback

A challenger digital bank targeting underbanked SMBs needed defensible TAM/SAM/SOM for a seed pitch. Initial DIY numbers were challenged on the first investor call. Avvale rebuilt the model: top-down from Federal Reserve and FDIC data, bottom-up from realistic SMB onboarding capacity, with full source citations. The lead VC's analyst signed off without further questions.

HealthTech Device

Competitor Matrix That Repositioned a $30M Series A

A connected medical-device startup had positioned against the wrong competitor set. Avvale ran a full landscape study, 22 direct and adjacent players, primary interviews with 14 clinicians, regulatory pathway mapped against FDA 510(k) precedent. The repositioning anchored the Series A narrative and the round closed inside three months.

Self-Storage Operator

$1.2M SBA Loan Approved on Local Market Study

A self-storage developer in the Southwest had been rejected twice for an SBA 7(a) loan on the back of weak market data. Avvale built a 5-mile radius supply study, unit-mix demand model, three-year occupancy curve and pricing benchmark against the four nearest operators. The SBA lender approved on first re-submission.

FAQ

Common questions

We use a hybrid top-down and bottom-up approach. Top-down: we triangulate published TAM figures from Grand View Research, Fortune Business Insights, IBISWorld and government statistics, then apply geographic and segment filters to derive SAM. Bottom-up: we model SOM from unit economics, sales capacity and realistic year-one customer acquisition. Investors trust the bottom-up number more, so we always present both and reconcile them.
Secondary research uses existing published data: industry reports, government statistics, regulatory filings, competitor websites and press releases. It is fast and cheap. Primary research means we collect new data ourselves: customer surveys, expert interviews, mystery shopping, pricing audits. It costs more but produces insight no competitor has access to. Sector Snapshot and Full Report packages are secondary-led. Bespoke Deep-Dive includes primary research.
Sector Snapshot is delivered in 3 to 5 working days. Full Market Research Report takes 7 to 10 working days. Bespoke Deep-Dive with primary research typically runs 3 to 5 weeks depending on survey sample size and expert interview schedules. Rush delivery is available on Sector Snapshot and Full Report packages for an additional fee.
You receive a designed PDF report (typically 25 to 80 pages depending on tier), an editable PowerPoint or Keynote version for re-use in pitch decks and board materials, and a raw Excel data pack with all underlying figures, sources and calculations. You own every file. We do not gate the data behind a license.
The report is a snapshot at the date of delivery. Market sizing data is sourced from the most recent published year, with forecasts running 5 to 7 years forward. For clients raising over multiple rounds, we offer an annual refresh at 40 percent of the original fee, which updates all figures, refreshes the competitor matrix and adds the latest regulatory developments.
Yes. This is exactly when primary research matters. For emerging categories we triangulate adjacent market data, conduct 10 to 20 expert interviews, run targeted customer surveys, and build a bottom-up model from scratch. Roughly a third of our Bespoke Deep-Dive engagements are in markets with no usable off-the-shelf research.
That is the design brief. Every number in the report is cited to a named source with a URL or document reference. Forecasts are shown with assumptions exposed. Competitor data is validated against multiple sources. If an investor or their analyst pushes back on a figure, you can defend it. We have supported clients through diligence with Tier 1 VCs, family offices, SBA underwriters and corporate strategic investors.
Yes. Send us your existing template, pitch deck or brand guidelines on the strategy call. We deliver the findings in your format, with your fonts, colours and section structure, ready to drop into a board pack, investor update or pitch deck without rework.
